Armenian women boxers can take part in Olympics 2012
AIBA intends to amend some rules before the London Olympics of 2012, first vice-president of Armenian Boxing Federation Derenik Gabrielyan told journalists on December 28. International Boxing Association (originally Association Internationale de Boxe Amateur - AIBA) envisaged a few changes. "During the Olympic Games of 2012 weight categories will be changed: instead of 48, 51 and 57 kg boxers will perform in 49, 52 and 60 kg weight categories," Derenik Gabrielyan said.

According to him, all these changes are aimed at ensuring women boxers' participation in the Olympics. 39 women boxers in 3 weight categories will take part in the London Olympics. 4 women boxers participated in the Armenian Boxing Championship of 2009 in Vanadzor. Changes will also be introduced in the arbitrators' qualification process.  The arbitrators must attend special courses in Canada and pass exams. "There is no arbitrator with 3 stars in Armenia, and we want to attract young professionals," Derenik Gabrielyan said.
