Armenian boxers will participate in World Championship in Baku


On April 20-May 2, Baku will host World Youth On April 20-May 2, Baku will host World Youth Boxing Championship, where winners will qualify for participation in 2010 Youth Olympics in Istanbul.

As Day.az reported, Tbilisi hosted a meeting between Armenian and Azeri representatives, covering details of Armenian boxers’ possible arrival to Baku.

As the first vice-president of Armenian Boxing Federation Derenik Gabrielyan told PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, several days ago, Armenian National Committee representatives visited Georgia, where 20th anniversary of Georgian National Olympic Committee was celebrated. Armenian and Azeri representatives had an unofficial discussion on participation of Armenian boxers in world championship.

As Day.az alleges, Armenian Federation decided to attain the chance for participation in Singapore Olympics without participation in World Championship, requesting International Boxing Association for licenses and receiving a refusal.

Vice president Derenik Gabrielyan stated in reply, that Armenia never made such a request to AIBA and Azeri press reports are in fact a disinformation. “We only addressed AIBA with a request to conclude a trilateral Armenia-Azerbaijan -AIBA agreement, to receive visas and provide our sportsmen’s safety. We’re waiting to get a reply from AIBA,” he said.

According to Vice –Champion, Armenian boxers will participate in World Championship in Baku. “We have very strong boxers, who’re currently competing for first places in international tournament in Donetsk,” he stressed.Championship, where winners will qualify for participation in 2010 Youth Olympics in Istanbul.
