The people of Nagorno Karabakh have been building their state through elections, Armenian President stated.

“During all these years, various European institutions, including the EU, reiterated they do not recognize the elections. It’s strange but we try to understand,” Serzh Sargsyan said during a news conference in Brussels.

“NKR’s opinion should never be neglected. This is a country which holds democratic, free and fair elections,” the President emphasized.

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said that the EU supports peaceful resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict under the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group and believes for a comprehensive resolution of the conflict, basing on all principles: the right to return for displaced persons, return of property, the right of nations to self-determination, security guarantees and withdrawal of troops.

As to Armenian-Turkish relations, Mr. Barroso said he can’t speak either for Armenia or Turkey. “This process requires patience and flexibility,” he said.
