Alexander Arzumanyan: examples abound when use of force led to peace

Former Foreign Minister of Armenia, member of the Armenian National Congress Alexander Arzumanyan cited the absence of armistice agreement as the reason behind repeated violations of ceasefire in Karabakh conflict zone.

“For the past 16 years, Karabakh and Azerbaijan have been living between war and peace,” he told a news conference in Yerevan.

Characterizing the recent incident in Chaylu as unacceptable, ex-Foreign Minister urged Armenian authorities as well as army commanders to conduct transparent investigation.

He expressed concern over the weak reaction of international community while Azerbaijan’s fault in provoking the incident was obvious.

“Many believe there is no military solution to Karabakh conflict. However, examples abound when use of force led to peace. This might be the logic behind the actions of Azeri president, who has enlisted tacit consent of international institutions,” he said.

Arzumanyan ruled out the possibility of the incident being initiated by Azeri soldiers, without the knowledge of President Aliyev.

Dwelling on Armenian side’s actions, following the incident, he noted that Armenian authorities should have taken their best efforts to prove Azerbaijan as the initiator of subversive attack.
