RA authorities not concerned over possible sale of Armenia-bound gas pipeline

Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan said that the RA authorities are not concerned over the possible purchase of Armenia-bound gas pipeline by another country, including Azerbaijan.

“Georgia has not announced the intention to sell the pipeline yet. It has only been withdrawn from the list of strategic properties privatization of which is forbidden,” Movsisyan told journalists on July 14.

“Anyway, even if the pipeline is offered for sale, our country will not face any shocking situation,” he added.

Meanwhile, Georgian media reports say that Free Democrats opposition party of Georgia headed by former permanent representative of Georgia in the UN Irakly Alasania is against the pipeline's withdrawal from the list of enterprises, privatization of which is forbidden.

According to the party, the sale of the pipeline or a part of its shares at London Stock Exchange will be an unjustified decision aimed at solving budgetary problems. Besides, the party has strategic concerns related to the possible purchase of the pipeline by Russia.

The final decision on the pipeline will be adopted in mid-July.
