Armenian-Turkish border may be opened for period of NATO exercises in Armenia

From September 11 to 17, Armenia will be hosting NATO exercises - Armenia 2010, during which skills of humanitarian relief units in zones of disasters will be practiced.

The Armenian-Turkish border will be opened for the period of NATO exercises to allow passage of Turkey's military column, Turkish Radikal paper reported.

19 countries will participate in the exercises held as part of NATO's Partnership for Peace program. The Turkish paper referred to the fictitious scenario of exercises, according to which servicemen will be have to save civilians after a disastrous earthquake, similar to 1988 earthquake in Armenia. The paper added that Azerbaijan has refrained from participating in the exercises.
