Gagik Minasyan: time is on Armenia’s side in Karabakh conflict resolution

Chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit, Budgetary and Economic Affairs, member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia Gagik Minasyan said that the meeting on the sidelines of an informal meeting of OSCE Foreign Ministers in Almaty can be considered summarization of the results of an important period, which lasted for 1-2 years.

First, according to Minasyan, representatives of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries made a statement in Athens to voice the three principles, based on which the Karabakh conflict should be solved.

Later, meetings were held in Sochi and Saint Petersburg at Russia’s initiative, where the Madrid Principles have gained renewed momentum, as new suggestions were received in addition to these complementary principles, confirming their importance. Specifically, the co-chair countries noted the unacceptability of any principle’s application separately.

“This refers to the principles of Helsinki Final Act: people’s right to self-determination, territorial integrity and non-use of threat or force. Application of these principles in package will secure a fair resolution of the Karabakh conflict,” Minasyan told a press conference in Yerevan on July 21.

He added that these are the principles, for which Armenia struggles, while Azerbaijan is afraid of them. “Time is on Armenia’s side; moreover, the international community gradually comes to conclusions, which proceed from norms of the international law. Thus, I attach importance to statements made by Foreign Ministers of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries,” noted Minasyan.

Specifically, he pointed to those statements, according to which, the NKR authorities will inevitably participate in the negotiation process, if the destructive stance of Azerbaijan continues.
