Chairman of the Agrarian-Peasant Union of Armenia Hrachya Berberyan said that the statements about an unprecedented grape harvest in Armenia this year are just a myth.

Grape harvest will be the same as last year; it could have been 20% higher if a struggle against illnesses and rodents were carried out, Berberyan told a press conference.

The expert states that grape harvest will total around 150,000-180,000t this year in Armenia.

At the same time, he noted that the situation in Tavush region is not bad. Yerevan Brandy Company has already purchased 1,000t of grape in Tavush region, while Yerevan factory of sparkling wines – 700t.

Berberyan said that if a plant refrains from purchasing the volume of grape envisaged under agreements, farmers cannot go to court, as they are not protected by the law.

“A relevant law on producers of agricultural production should be adopted. Our union has offered such a bill, but there is no progress on it,” Berberyan concluded.
