Turks in Igdir go on hunger strike against Armenia

Members of Igdir-based provincial society for “struggle against Armenian claims” went on hunger strike “to protest Armenia’s policy towards Azerbaijan.”

According to Turkish media reports, the goal of the two-day action is to call on the international community and the OSCE Minsk Group to intensify efforts for resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Igdir, a town in the eastern Turkey, is now populated by Kurds and Azerbaijanis and is considered to be a stronghold of Islamic fundamentalism, along with Erzerum. Before 1915, Armenians constituted the overwhelming majority of Igdir’s population.
