Piruz Sargsyan: public awareness about financial ombudsman’s activity rising

The number of complaints received by the Armenian financial ombudsman’s office in January-October 2010 increased by 120%, totaling 527 again 378 filed during the same period in 2009.

“Public awareness about our activity is rising,” financial ombudsman Piruz Sargsyan told a news conference on November 2.

“55% of the complaints were settled in favor of claimants, the maximum damage repair being AMD 5,1 million and minimum AMD 1000,” she said.

The largest number of complaints refers to banking sector, followed by pawn houses, which are said to sell the pawned jewelry without the knowledge of the clients.
