The Armenian Ministry of Defense should take action to prevent tragic incidents in the army, a human rights activist said.
According to Arthur Sakunts, reforms carried out in the armed forces are nothing but imitation.
“Corruption, links between general and business representatives and lack if public control over the Defense Ministry’s expenses arouse concerns,” he said during the “Army and Society” discussed organized by Civilitas Foundation.
“There is an impression that the military leadership tries to conceal casualties instead of investigating them,” Sakunts said.
Meanwhile, Defense Ministry representative Alexander Avetisyan said that the Ministry undertakes measures to prevent casualties in the army.
He also denied reports on violence against younger conscripts in the army.
