Corruption in civil service agencies, low benefits among main problems of disabled in Armenia

On December 3, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Salvation NGO hosted a news conference in Yerevan, focusing on the issues of invalids in Armenia.

“To absolve a disabled person from military service, either he or his parents have to go through all institutions he’s been at before. The dragged-out procedure of medical and social expertise causes a new stress with a disabled person, who, in addition to it, has to prove his disability,” Salvation NGO chairman Arpine Abrahamyan told a news conference.

At the conference, the participants singled out corruption in civil service agencies dealing with the disabled, low invalidity benefits among the main issues persons with disabilities are facing in Armenia.
