Commemorative events timed to 22nd anniversary of Spitak earthquake were launched on December 6.
As the Deputy Mayor of Spitak Anahit Dyulajyan told PanARMENIAN.Net, a commemorative exhibition in art school, a march to the memorial of earthquake victims as well as a Old and New Spitak slide show screening were on event schedule.
A wreath-laying ceremony followed by one minute's silence in remembrance of earthquake victims will take place on the morning of December 7.
On December 7, 1988, at 11:41 a.m. local time a magnitude 6.9 earthquake shook northwestern Armenia and was followed four minutes later by a magnitude 5.8 aftershock.
The earthquakeleveled the cities of Spitak and Gyumri and left 25 000 people dead, 100000 wounded and 500000 homeless.
