Chairman of the Association of Consumers of Armenia Armen Poghosyan said that the only way to struggle against increase in prices in Armenia is self-immolation.
“Our evidences, publications, debates with the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition and Public Services Regulatory Commission of Armenia have yielded no result,” Poghosyan told a press conference.
According to him, prices before New Year go up basically in small shops, but not in supermarkets.
He added that some supermarkets pursue a policy of decreasing prices for certain foodstuffs, for example, turkey and juices. Thus, in contrast to small shops, the large ones try to suppress the growth in prices, the expert said.
Prices for fruits, meat, eggs and cheese have already gone up.
Egg producers promised early in December that they will not increase prices for their output. However, growth in prices for egg was recorded as of December 21.
