The referendum in Southern Sudan showed that the right of nations to self-determination is not a frozen element of the international law, a political analyst said.
“The people of Southern Sudan are realizing their right to self-determination in accordance with the agreement they reached with the parent state. Self-determination of Nagorno Karabakh took place on the basis of the 1990 legislation,” Alexander Markarov told journalists on January 13.
“Southern Sudan’s self-determination attempt will be a trump card for Armenia in Karabakh talks,” he said, adding that unlike Sudan’s leadership, the Azerbaijani authorities failed to display political will.
