Shahan Kandaharian: political crisis in Lebanon enters new stage

Editor-in-chief of Beirut-based Aztag daily newspaper Shahan Kandaharian said that the political crisis in Lebanon has entered a new stage.

68 members of the parliament supported Najib Mikati as new Prime Minister, who will start forming the new government.

Kandaharian told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter that though Prime Minister Mikati offered all political forces to participate in the new government creation, observers pay greater attention to the opposition’s boycott.

According to Kandaharian, the political crisis is under way, however the situation in the country is controlled by law enforcers.

“Ankara is already tired of attempts to settle the Lebanese crisis. However, the Turkish Foreign Ministry still makes attempts to interfere in the situation. The current crisis directly or indirectly is related to the killing of former prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri and ruling of the International Court on those guilty of the assassination. Besides, the crisis has become a platform for superpowers and regional actors to pursue their interests,” said Kandaharian.
