Human factor is behind inclusion of greater number of animals and plants in Red List

Head of the Department of Biodiversity Policy at the RA Ministry of Nature Protection Tatyana Danielyan said that the human impact on the environment is the basic reason behind inclusion of greater number of animals and plants in the Red List.

“The poorer a country is, the more it affects the ecosystem,” Tatyana Danielyan told a press conference in Yerevan.

“The protected territories are expanding in our country, and currently they make over 11%. However, it is not clear how the protection regime is observed on these territories,” Armenian former minister of ecology, Chairperson of the Association for Sustainable Development of Humanity NGO Karine Danielyan said for her part.

She noted that this contributes to increased number of pages in Red Lists. “Our task is to preserve not separate species of animals and plants, but the entire ecosystem. If we lose it, we will be annihilated as well, as we make a small part of it,” concluded Karine Danielyan.
