Master Card International faces high competition with ArCa payment system in Armenia

Currently, Converse Bank CJSC implements large-scale card projects.

The bank is going to increase the number of issued cars by at least 20% until the end of the year, Executive Director, Chairman of the Board of Converse Bank CJSC Tigran Davtyan said in Yerevan during the March 14 official presentation of cards for women - Master Card WOMAN`S CARD.

According to him, the bank currently services around 50,000 active cards. The share of salary cards makes 30% of the total cards of Converse bank.

Referring to provision of services to pensioners, Davtyan said that around 1,200 accounts have been opened in the bank, of which 1,000 accounts are serviced via plastic cards. According to Davtyan, opening of accounts, encashment in the bank POS-terminals and ATMs is free of charge.

Referring to increase in non-cash deals in the region, Regional Director of MasterCard International payment system Nina Willems said that a considerable growth was recorded in them recently – 10% increase in 2010 compared to 2009.

As for the activity of MasterCard International in Armenia, Willems noted that the international payment system is satisfied with its cooperation in the country. Referring to the share of MasterCard International in Armenia, she said that it is significant, but the international payment system faces high competition with ArCA national payment system, which has its target market.
