The situation in Damascus in calm, Armenian community is under no threat, representative of Syria’s Armenian community, member of Arabian Writers’ Union Nora Arisian said.
As she told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, the community representatives have no intention to leave Syria. “We’re aware that governmental reforms are soon to be expected, with a better atmosphere to follow. Nothing will change for Armenians in this case, we live peaceful lives and are supporting President Bashar al-Assad,” Arisian said.
Armenians in Syria have a school, operating churches, social organization, the privileges being restricted to Armenian community only out of other national minorities in the country. Currently 100 000 Armenians reside in Syria.
