FOREIGN MINISTERS OF ARMENIA, GREECE AND IRAN SIGN A MEMORANDUM OF MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING
YEREVAN, March 9. /Mediamax/. Foreign minister of Armenia Vardan Oskanian took part on March 8 in the fourth ministerial meeting of Armenia-Greece-Iran trilateral cooperation, held in the Greek capital Athens, Mediamax was informed in the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Armenia.
During the meeting the sides discussed possibilities of enlargement of cooperation in the spheres of energy, transportation and communication. Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Oskanian highly commended the work carried out after the last meeting, which was held in September 1999 in Yerevan. Minister Oskanian stressed that special importance should be attached to the fulfillment of concluded agreements. According to him, the trilateral economic cooperation also has an important political significance, as it combines three different regions - the Caucasus, Persian Gulf and countries of the Mediterranean, thus giving a possibility to each of the countries to take part in the economic activity of the region and also to discuss regional political issues.
As a result of the three-sided ministerial meeting a Memorandum of mutual understanding was signed, after what the Foreign ministers of the three countries answered the questions of the journalists.
After the trilateral ministerial meeting, President of Greece Mr. Stephanapulos received the Foreign ministers of Armenia and Iran. The same day Minister Oskanian met with the minister of foreign affairs of Greece George Papandreu. During the meeting questions concerning bilateral relations, cooperation between Armenia and the European Union, as well as problems connected with the Caucasian and Balkan regions were discussed.
Following this, Armenian Foreign Minister met with his Iranian counterpart Kamal Kharrazi.
Within the frames of his visit to the Athens, Vardan Oskanian also met with representatives of the Armenian community of Greece. --0--
