Youtube launched Live streaming, according to Youtube Official Blog.

“It's easy to think about YouTube as a place to watch videos recorded in the past. But people’ve told us they want more - and that includes events taking place right now,” the blog said.

Youtube has a 2 billion views a day. It has live streamed a number of popular concerts, sporting events, and interviews, but primarily on a one-off basis. Now browsing the live page of Youtube (youtube.com/live) it is possible to see what events are going to be live streamed and even subscribe to favorite YouTube live-streaming partners .

Youtube also started rolling out live streaming beta platform, which will allow certain YouTube partners with accounts in good standing to stream live content on YouTube.
