Lakeland International Folk Festival to feature Armenian singing and dance

Community College of Lakeland, Florida, is looking to expand the culture of the student body with its eighth annual International Folk Festival.

The event will take place at 2 p.m. April 30 in the Performing Arts Center on the college's Kirtland campus. It will feature performances by six different groups representing cultures around the world through dance and music.

"It provides the community an opportunity to share their cultures and to experience different cultures," said Ivana Gorgeivska, co-adviser of the International Student Club.

Performers include the Csardas Dance Company, Kashtan School, Mexican Mariachi Band from Youngstown, Ruzanna Tovmasyan who will perform Armenian singing and dance, Sheene King African dancing, and Federal Rebels performing bluegrass folk.

The event will highlight seven different cultures, including India, Macedonia and Hungary.

Club members and others have donated their artifacts to display at the event, Gorgeivska said.

There also will be different types of pastries on sale during the event, including Italian pastries and Hungarian nut rolls, The News-Herald reports.
