Kiro Manoyan wonders why Yerevan hasn’t withdrawn signature from protocols yet

Both positive and negative factors emerged in the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide over the past year, according to ARF Bureau’s Hay Dat and Political Affairs director.

“Not withdrawing the signature from the Armenian-Turkish protocols, Yerevan provided Ankara with additional leverages. I can’t comprehend why Armenia has not withdrawn the signature yet,” Kiro Manoyan told journalists on April 23.

As to Turkey’s position on the Armenian Genocide issue, he said Turkey will hardly acknowledge the Genocide without pressure from outside. “This is a matter of Turkish consciousness and Ankara is unlikely to accept this fact if not pressed to do so,” he said.

Asked about possibility of getting compensation for the damage inflicted on the Armenian population during the years of genocide, Manoyan said that the protocols almost exclude such a possibility. “It’s hard to raise the issue is political circles but what the Armenian people should do is to make precise demands,” he noted.
