UNWTO leader promises to be Armenian ambassador in any country he visits

Armenia surpassed expectation of UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary General, Taleb Rifai. “The country has great tourism potential based on rich cultural and historical heritage and faith. Armenia deserves the number of its visitors to reach million,” UNWTO Secretary General said on July 5 in Yerevan.

Within the framework of the visit, the guest attended Garni pagan temple and Geghard monastery. Here he was astonished by spiritual singing of two men and women without any musical instrument accompaniment, and expressed idea to take them to Madrid, what will be the best advertisement for Armenia.

And, though Mr.Riffai did not spend a single penny in Armenia as a tourist, according to the expert, one can see the sightseeing traveling every 10 minutes in Armenia. “I promise to be Armenian ambassador in any country I visit,” he said. Besides, closed borders are not embarrassing to the Secretary General on the way of tourist potential development in the country. Rifai brought an example of small Switzerland, which made such progress with great efforts. As the expert said, UNWTO has big plans in Armenia, namely, to increase tourist visits, simplify visa regime, multiply investment, raise Armenian brand recognizability, improve legal field on the way of integration to the world tourism industry.
