TURKEY DID NOT LEAVE AS OTHER CHOISE, ARMENIAN PRESIDENT SAID
03.11.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. "Armenia got nothing while avoiding in the past to forward the issue of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide - there is no diplomatic relations with Turkey, Turkey is still blockading Armenia. Actually Turkey has not left us other choice, Armenian President Robert Kocharian said in interview to National TV.
Commenting the possibility of force reaction of Turkey on Armenian efforts aimed at international recognition of the Genocide, Robert Kocharian said: "The world has changed. Over the past several years we saw how the world community has been punishing those who were trying to act the same way as Turkey did in the beginning of the century."
Responding the question on whether Armenia intends to forward financial or territorial claims to Turkey, Kocharian said: "In policy, as well as in life, not every crime foresees the compensation of losses. But when the people fights for its rights and its dignity it may not be neglected by other states."
Robert Kocharian underlined that while raising the issue on international recognition of the Genocide Armenia does not want to be inimical with Turkey. "The entire world may recognize Armenian genocide but the most important for us is to know that the Turkish people has found out about the truth." -0--
