
An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.5 jolted coastal areas of Fukushima Prefecture early Monday, August 22, but no new abnormalities were reported at the crisis-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, Kyodo news agency reported citing the Japan Meteorological Agency and Tokyo Electric Power Co.
The 7:05 am quake occurred off Fukushima. It measured 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the town of Naraha, which is located about 16 kilometers south of the nuclear plant.
