Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev and his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul had a meeting on the sidelines of an economic forum in Yaroslavl, Russia, on September 8.

The two presidents touched upon expansion of cooperation, as well regional and international issues, including the Nagorno Karabakh conflict resolution, Haberaktuel reported.

Earlier, in an interview with Russian daily Moskovskiy Komsomolets Turkish President Abdullah Gul said that the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is the main obstacle for creation of a favorable atmosphere in the South Caucasus. “Turkey is interested in stability and welfare of the region and is ready to lend a helping hand to resolve the problem,” he said, adding that Karabakh conflict settlement will be positive for establishment of neighborly relations with Armenia. “My country is interested in normalization of relations with Armenia and establishment of lasting peace in the region,” Gul said.
