THE METSAMOR NUCLEAR POWER STATION CAN FUNCTION UNTIL 2013, SAID ENERGY MINISTER OF ARMENIA

The Metsamor nuclear power station is a key element of Armenia's "energy security" and is safe enough to be operational after the year 2004, Energy Minister of Armenia Karen Galustian said during a public lecture on "Energy Security of Armenia" at the American University of Armenia.
The European Union insists that the Metsamor nuclear power station be closed in 2004.
The minister argued that the plant, which accounts for roughly 40 percent of Armenia's annual electricity output, can function until 2013 without posing any danger to environment. -0-
