RPA member: police chief’s resignation not connected to his professionalism

Relieving Alik Sargsyan of the position of Armenian police chief had nothing to do with his professionalism, according to the leader of ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary group.

“On the whole, we were pleased with Sargsyan’s work, and so, I believe, was the President. The staff shifts usually depend on specific goals pursued by the state and government,” Galust Sahakyan told a news conference.

As Sahakyan further noted, Sargsyan will be transferred to another position; however, the politician refused to provide details.

The politician refused to comment on rumored resignation of Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan, merely noting a change of roles and positions to be a predictable turn in a large political staff.

According to reports, Deputy Defense Minister Vladimir Gasparyan will replace Sargsyan on his post.
