Turkish media pin ferry hijacking on Armenians

Turkish media claim that PKK member who recently hijacked Kartepe ferry is of Armenian descent.

“Mensur Guzel’s family comes from Bahmedan (Ayhan) village in Diyarbakır Province, which was populated by Armenians at the beginning of the 20th century,” Turkish Habervaktim website reports.

According to the portal, hijacker’s cousin has an Armenian last name, another relative’s name is Hakob.

Turkish commandos killed Mensur Guzel, later identified as a Kurdish militant armed with a bomb, in a pre-dawn operation to rescue more than 20 passengers and crew held hostage for 12 hours on a high-speed ferry near Istanbul.
