CE SECRETARY GENERAL CALLED PARTIAL REPEAL OF DEATH PENALTY IN ARMENIA "A CORRECT STEP"
The resolution passed by the Armenian parliament the other day on repeal of death penalty in the country is "a correct step" on the way of meeting commitments to the Council of Europe member countries. CE secretary general Walter Schwimmer said yesterday. At the same time he expressed hope that Armenian parliamentarians would remove the last limitations on the way of full repeal of that "unacceptable punishment measure" as soon as possible. Let us remind that in compliance with the new Criminal Code passed by the parliament of Armenia, the provisions of non-application of capital punishment do not spread on people, who have committed heinous crimes (acts of terrorism, murders with aggravation and others) before coming into force of the present law.
