Slovak authorities welcomed adoption of the France’s bill on outlawing denial of the Armenian Genocide.

In his address to the Assembly of Armenians of Europe, the Chairman of Supreme Court of Slovakia, Mr. Stefan Harabin said this was the victory of progressive European countries.

“French authorities consulted us when drafting the bill and compared it to our own bill. They made an excellent amendment, I mean the provision envisaging a fine for the Genocide denial. Now they can easily fine Turks denying the Armenian Genocide in the territory of France,” Harabin said.

Former Prime Minister of Slovakia Jan Charnogursky also welcomed the bill.

On December 22, French National Assembly passed the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial. The draft law envisages a year in jail and a fine of 45,000 euros for those who publicly deny the Armenian Genocide in France.
