Jean-Claude Mignon to become new PACE chairman

A new PACE chairman will be elected during the January session of the organization upon completion of PACE acting head Mevlut Cavusoglu's term of office, Trend reports.

Frenchman Jean-Claude Mignon is expected to replace Cavusoglu. Mignon's candidacy was put forward by a political group of the European People's Party (EPP), represented in the PACE. Mignon is a member of the PACE committees on political affairs and monitoring, PACE deputy chairman and a member of the Bureau. Both chairman and deputies will be elected during the session.

Cavusoglu was elected to the post of PACE chairman in January 2010.

According to the agreement reached between PACE political groups, a candidate for chairman of the organization is nominated by the rotation of political groups. Presently, it is EPP’s turn to hold the post of PACE chairman. Mignon is its member.

PACE chairman is elected for a two-year term.
