As of April 1, 2003 the population of Azerbaijan was 8 million 218 thousand. Within the first quarter of the year the population number increased 15 thousand. As reported by "Arminfo" agency, urban population makes 51% of the country residents, and the rural is 49%. Within the mentioned period 28.8 thousand children were born in Azerbaijan, 12.7 thousand people died.
