“Many media paid dearly for their coverage of democratic aspirations or opposition movements. Control of news and information continued to tempt governments and to be a question of survival for totalitarian and repressive regimes,” Editor& Publisher magazine quoted the organization’s representatives.
The report placed Armenia on the 77 position with 27 points, followed by Georgia, which comes105th with 38 points. Thus, Armenia enjoys the highest press freedom indices in the region.
Azerbaijan is currently the 162nd with 87.25 points, Turkey is in the 148th place.
The list of the countries is topped by Finland and Norway with 10 and 9 points respectively.
