The state choir of Nagorno Karabakh was awarded the gold medal at "Europe and its songs" annual international festival held in Barcelona. The Armenian singers were honored such a high evaluation for performing the songs of Komitas, Armenian classical scholar. Azeris' strongly reacted to the event stating that "Nagorno Karabakh art and culture are the carriers of nationalistic policy". In the opinion of Azeri composer Javanshir Kuliyev, as Echo Baku newspaper writes, the initiators of the Barcelona festival "apparently did not have any idea about the geographical-political affiliation of the group that arrived from Stepanakert".
