EU sets forth new proposals on Karabakh settlement?

The EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and for the Crisis in Georgia, Ambassador Philippe Lefort met with President of Azerbaijan, Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Justice and National Security as well as other officials in Baku.

According to head of EU delegation to Azerbaijan Roland Kobia, discussion of Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement was in the focus of the meetings.

“EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton reaffirmed the EU’s readiness to intensify its role in Karabakh settlement,” Kobia said.

He further noted that though EU backs OSCE Minsk Group goals, it stands ready to set forth new proposals to speed up the conflict resolution at the request of the sides.

“Our goal is to develop ideas aimed at boosting contacts between Azerbaijani and Armenian people, as well as creation of atmosphere of trust between them,” the official said.
