“Armenian Prince. Manuk Bey” book to be presented in Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Gohar Rshtuni’s “Armenian Prince. Manuk Bey” book will be presented in Chamber Music House in Yerevan on December 1.

The author calls her book a documentary and historical narration casting light on the Russian-Turkish relations, including the story of the Treaty of Bucharest through the prism of Manuk Bey’s life.

The book is based on archive documents and historical works.

Manuk Bey (Manuc Bei), an Armenian merchant, diplomat and inn-keeper, was rumored at the time to be the wealthiest man in the Balkans. During the Russo-Turkish War of 1806-1812, he was also a mediator (1809) between the Russian Imperial Army of Mikhail Andreyevich Miloradovich and a rebel Ottoman garrison in Giurgiu. A Russian agent, Manuc took part in the negotiations for the 1812 Treaty of Bucharest between the Russian and Ottoman empires, which were held in his inn in Bucharest.
