Baku-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Kars railroad construction to resume in two weeks

PanARMENIAN.Net - The construction of Baku-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Kars railroad will be resumed in two weeks, according to Georgian Economy Minister Zurab Pololikashvili.

“30% of the work has been already carried out,” APA quoted him as saying. “Although severe winter forced us to suspend construction, we will implement the project within the schedule.”

Baku-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Kars is a regional rail link project to directly connect Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan. The project was originally to be completed by 2010 but is now scheduled for completion by 2012. The carrying capacity of the railroad is supposed to reach 15 mln tons per year.
