Significant difference recorded in taxation of local and imported products in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - On October 5, the Armenian National Assembly discussed a bill on introduction of amendments to the Law on Excise Tax, as well as bills on invalidation of the Laws on Fixed Payment for Cigarette Production and Fixed Payment for Petrol and Diesel Fuel.

“The bill aims to equal local producers’ and importers’ taxation. The taxation was equal until 2008, but under conditions of the global crisis it was decided to decrease the tax for local products,” Chairman of the RA NA Committee on Economic Affairs Vardan Ayvazyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

According to him, the legislative amendments will lead to AMD 10 and AMD 15 growth in the prime cost of 1 pack of local and imported cigarettes respectively. Besides, the difference in cost of excise for local and imported alcoholic beverages will be cut from AMD 220 to 120. “The number of countries with such a big difference in taxation of local and imported products is very limited in the world,” said Ayvazyan.
