Russian specialists to conduct seminar on technological usage of high-quality wheat seeds

PanARMENIAN.Net - On October 6, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan presided over a meeting held in the RA government on implementation of the seed growing program. The meeting brought together the Armenian Minister of Agriculture, regions governors and other officials.

Besides, Chairman of the Russian Seeds Association Ivan Kuzmin and Director of Seeds of Stavropol LLC Grigory Dontsov, who contributed significantly to timely delivery of seeds from Russia to Armenia, participated in the meeting, the RA government’s press service reported.

The Prime Minister noted that the meeting aims to reveal the existing problems and clarify the current situation in regions with respect to distribution of the imported seeds from Russia.

Referring to basic problems of the program on seed growing and priorities of the strategy approved by the Armenian government, Tigran Sargsyan said that the program aims to rehabilitate seed growing. “We should deal with those enterprises, which will establish a long-term cooperation with the state and focus on seed growing. It means that people should follow land quality, meet all technical requirements and improve their professional skills. Due to this cooperation, we should produce 30,000t of seeds annually to meet Armenia’s needs,” he said.

Armenian Minister of Agriculture Gerasim Alaverdyan and governors presented data on seeds distribution in regions. The Minister said that the guests arrived from Russia will conduct a seminar for Armenian farmers on relevant technological usage of the seeds imported from Russia.

Besides, details of a pilot project on testing of local organic fertilizers were discussed during the meeting. Tigran Sargsyan noted that the program will contribute to increase in demand for local output and instructed governors to oversee the program implementation.
