UN Expert: principles of corporate management need to be introduced in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Chairman of the RA SCPEC Artak Shaboyan said that the ongoing legislative reforms are needed but are not enough to improve the competition environment.

“The global experience of developed and developing countries proves that antimonopoly bodies cannot struggle against violation of the rules of free competition alone. Assistance of other states bodies and the public is needed, since problems related to competition are deep, various and interrelated with other fields,” Shaboyan told a joint briefing with the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference for Trading and Development, Supachai Panitchpakdi.

Panitchpakdi noted for his part that the existence of huge “shadow” is a peculiarity of Armenia’s economy, thus the country’s authorities should unite efforts to bring this entities to the legal field.

He said that principles of corporate management need to be introduced and developed in the CIS countries, including Armenia. According to Panitchpakdi, it will create a favorable field for the competition rules and application of consumers’ rights.

He added that the UN spares no effort to develop this direction appropriately.

March 21-23, Yerevan hosts an international conference dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the SCPEC establishment. It brought together heads of antimonopoly bodies from 15 CIS and European countries.
