Tender for construction of broadband Internet network with 100Mbyte/s capacity to be announced soonJanuary 25, 2011 - 16:28 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian Minister of Transport and Communication Manuk Vardanyan said that the RA government will announce a tender for construction and distribution of broadband Internet network with capacity of 100Mbyte/s within a couple of months. “A company will be chosen and we will try to solve all matters related to provision of services in this direction,” Vardanyan told a press conference in Yerevan on January 25. Earlier, Secretary of the council for assistance to information technologies development Armen Grigoryan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter that investments to the project will total $60-100mln. The operator, which wins the tender, should provide the network for rent to other interested companies. According to Grigoryan, the network construction works will be launched in three months. Construction of the national network of high-speed broadband Internet in Armenia is a part of the program implemented jointly with the World Bank to increase the technology’s competitiveness. Vardanyan noted that the quality of services provided in Armenia’s communication field is improving from year to year and it is evident. He reported that changes and amendments will be introduced to the RA Law on Electronic Communications, as well as a bill on Technical Control in Electronic Communications will be drafted, what will allow systematizing the current communication field in Armenia.
