Google launches subscription model, competitive to Apple’s

PanARMENIAN.Net - Google has launched a subscription model called One Pass that offers better terms for publishers than the Apple equivalent unveiled earlier this week.

Apple’s iTunes-based subscription model will exact a 30% cut off publishers’ revenue but Google’s offering will only take a 10% cut. Some publishers, most notably Rhapsody, have bemoaned Apple's large commission.

Publishers have the option to sell auto-renewable subscriptions, single articles or multiple-issue packages on One Pass.

One Pass will offer to users a “purchase-once, view-anywhere functionality” so users can view content across any device, Google wrote on its product page. Mobile payments are also permitted in One Pass, CNN reported.
