Samsung not planning 3D smartphone![]() February 18, 2011 - 16:22 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Samsung will not be following LG to market with a 3D capable smartphone any time soon. LG unveiled the first-ever 3D smartphone, the Optimus 3D, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) this week. The Android powered phone offers glasses-free. 3D video recording and playback, plus the option to stream content to other W-Fi, 3D-enabled devices. However, despite the splash the phone has made in the tech press and mainstream media, Samsung, which has been done much to bring 3D TVs to the mass market, has no current plans to launch a rival device. Jim Powell, Head of Product Management at Samsung Mobile UK, told Tech Radar: “We are world leaders in 3D, but we haven’t seen a need for 3D on mobiles as yet for UK customers. There’s a trade off with when it comes to thickness and pocketablity when it comes adding 3D into a mobile phone as well.” He added: “We just don’t see [3D] is needed yet – good luck to the innovators though, it will be interesting to see if it works, and if it does you’ll see a response from Samsung quickly.” LG’s handset is landing in the UK during the second quarter of the year. Orange, Vodafone and 3 have so far confirmed plans to range the phone, top10.com reported. ![]() ![]() Yerevan will host the 2024 edition of the World Congress On Information Technology (WCIT).
