iPad 2 released, is thinner than iPhone 4

PanARMENIAN.Net - Apple co-founder Steve Jobs released iPad 2 on March 2.

“So iPad 2 has all new design. It works dramatically faster: A5 processor. The iPad 2 is actually thinner than the iPhone 4. It's lighter as well. 1.5 pounds down to 1.3. And it comes in white and black,” Jobs announced.

Speaking at the Apple press conference, Steve Jobs has announced that the company recently sold its 100 millionth iPhone. He also confirmed that the company sold 15 million of its iPad tablet over the past nine months, citing the fact that Apple has its own retail stores as one of the reasons for the company's strong sales.

As expected, a front-facing camera will be added - for Apple's own brand video call service, FaceTime - along with a built-in gyroscope. The operating system is also getting the upgrade to iOS 4.3, which will offer significantly improved javascript performance within its Safari web browser.

Impressively, the new iPad 2 will be just 8.8 mm in depth - which is not just thinner than the old iPad (13.4mm), but thinner even than the iPhone 4 (9.3mm). With a thinner tablet, comes a lighter weight - 1.5lbs down to 1.3lbs. The new model will come in white as well as black, from day one. Which is bound to raise speculation that the iPhone 5 will be available in white when it is eventually announced. The new iPad 2 will also match the same retail prices as its comparable earlier variants - $500 for the 16GB model with Wi-Fi or U$629 for the 3G model. Sales are expected to start from March 25 worldwide after a March 11 launch in the U.S., according to cellular-news.

Jobs remarked that though iPad 2 is thinner, it has 10-hour battery life.
