CHARLES AZNAVOUR AND KIRK KERKORIAN NATIONAL HEROES OF ARMENIAMay 28, 2004 - 18:47 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On the occasion of the Day of First Republic Armenian President Robert Kocharian signed the decree to confer the title of National Hero of Armenia to French cabaret singer Charles Aznavour and US philanthropist Kirk Kerkorian and decorate them with the Fatherland order. As reported by the press service of the Armenian President, Kirk Kirkorian is given the title for his "great services for the nation and activities directed to the development and prosperity of Armenia"; Charles Aznavour is honored with the medal "for introducing Armenia to the whole world, his great services as well as on occasion of his 80-th birthday". To note, the Day of the First Republic is celebrated May 28 by Armenians all over the world in remembrance of the first independent Republic of Armenia established in 1918.
