A professional mathematician, Loznitsa said that while creating a script, he first sees the image and uses it as a basis for a composite sketch. The guest of Golden Apricot Yerevan-hosted film fest compared his films to sculptures. “First you pick the stone, then decide on the measurements of the statue to finally start carving,” he said. The helmer confessed to using mathematical calculations while shooting the film, trying to make every episode as laconic as possible.
