Slain military doctor Vahe Avetyan commemorated in LA

PanARMENIAN.Net - A small crowd gathered outside the Los Angeles Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia on July 13 to protest the severe beating and death of military doctor Vahe Avetyan in Yerevan in June, and deliver a series of demands to the government of Armenia.

According to The Armenian Weekly, Avetyan’s cousin was one of the protesters, and made a heartfelt plea that the laws of the land be implemented and simple justice be served upon those who murdered his relative.

Consulate staff allowed only one person to enter the building from among the demonstrators to deliver the list of demands, which follow: An emergency session of the Armenian National Assembly be convened; The Prosecutor General indict Ruben Hayrapetyan as a co-defendant in the Avetyan murder case; Hayrapetyan be dismissed from the National Assembly for violating its rules that prohibit entrepreneurial activity by sitting deputies; An impartial investigation be conducted of Hayrapetyan’s offenses and Avetyan’s murder; Hayrapetyan be dismissed from his post as president of the Football Federation of Armenia.
