Paper: election shots heard in Gyumri![]() August 28, 2012 - 13:07 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Shots have been heard in one of the districts of Armenian northern city of Gyumri, according to Hraparak daily. Among the participants of the skirmish, Gyumri mayor Vardan Ghukasyan’s son’s name, Spartak, who has just returned from Russia, is being mentioned again. Rumors are afloat that Spartak with his friends has quarreled with some fellows in the district, who support mayoral candidate Samvel Balasanyan, and shots have been heard afterwards, the paper says. Shirak province police chief Karen Babakekhyan confirmed the fact in a conversation with the paper’s reporter but refused to give any names or details. He only mentioned, that the circumstances are being investigated and that there were no casualties in the incident, the paper reports. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
